Green Disposal of Your Real Christmas Tree

You have already been environmentally responsible by using a real tree rather than an artificial tree (unless you plan to use that fake tree for 20+ years, real is the way to go).  Now that Christmas is over, what are you going to do with the tree?  The best option may be to find a Tree Recycling Center in your area.  You can do so using the handy Tree Recycling Locator from Earth911.com.

If that's not an option in your area, you can consider turning your tree into mulch if you happen to have access to a mulcher.  If not, you can keep your tree in your yard for the remainder of the season to provide shelter to wildlife.  Consider hanging peanut butter stuffed pinecones or suet feeders on it for extra treats for your outdoor friends.  If you're a city dweller without much yard space, check with local wildlife sanctuaries as they may have a use for your tree.

There are two main ways NOT to dispose of your tree.  Don't burn it as it will add to air pollution and don't send it to the landfill - it takes a long time to biodegrade in those conditions and takes up a LOT of space!
