Diet & Exercise Pitfalls of Being Sick

Today I am feeling miserable with a cold. Instead of nourishing myself with healthy foods, I have been eating like crap. Do you ever get that feeling when you don't feel good that you just don't care and you eat whatever junk is close by? That is exactly what I did today.

I was dragging all morning and didn't even eat breakfast - something that I always make it a point to do. So, by the time 11:30 rolled around I was hungry and needed to eat. I wanted something "sandwichy", but we had no bread, so I found a Garlic Chicken White Pizza (or something like that) Lean Pocket, which I microwaved. I was thinking I would eat some baby carrots with it, but I didn't. Instead I went down to the basement and got a bag of potato chips. The chips were actually a few weeks past their expiration date because I bought them at Christmastime and, since I have been eating healthy, they haven't been eaten yet. Then, to top the whole thing off, I ate a Twinkie. Yes, a Twinkie. I had semi-good intentions and brought a Cutie Clementine back to my bedroom with me, but I continued on my crap eating/lazy streak and didn't eat it.

Should I go on and continue to confess my sins? I might was well. Of course I didn't feel like cooking tonight, so I went to Culver's (a local fast food chain) with my husband to grab something to eat. He was fairly good and ordered the pot roast with a salad. What did I order? A cheeseburger and fries. Yes, I now feel like total crap.

So, now it's 6:30 pm and since I feel weak and tired from the combination of being sick and low/no-nutrient foods I have no energy or inclination to exercise today, so that won't be happening. (Husband is off to play a couple hours of volleyball.)

So, what's my plan now? Chalk today up as a very bad day all around, get a lot of sleep tonight and start fresh tomorrow. I bought milk on the way home so I can start the day with oatmeal or shredded wheat. And while writing this I have decided to eat that clementine I passed up earlier and maybe eat another piece of fruit or two. Plus, I have Zumba class tomorrow night with friends counting on me to be there, so I will rise again!!! least that's the plan.

UPDATE: It's a couple hours later and I ate a bowl of oatmeal, some baby carrots and a clementine...I'm feeling better :)


  1. Tomorrow is another day. I'm bad about that too, though I'm working on grabbing for portioned controlled items, or healthier options. I've been sick this week too, so I hear ya. It's amazing how much getting in your servings of fruits and vegetables even when you're not feeling good effects how you feel. Hope you feel better!
